Thesis Reflection

After five years of study in the Architectural Engineering program, this thesis project was a very comprehensive application of many of the courses taken. The classes within the structural curriculum allowed me to confidently make design decisions and has resulted in a project that I am truly proud of. Although I did not know it at the time, all of the courses within the AE department have impacted who I am as a design professional.

Being given the freedom to determine my own project scope was both daunting and exciting, as I needed to set my own milestone goals with reasonable expectations. The spring semester was a learning experience to balance the self-imposed project deadlines with other required coursework.

This thesis project has allowed me to grow as a structural engineer and understand both the technical knowledge and integration with other building systems in order to be a good design professional. I am excited to begin my career as a practicing engineer and apply all the skills I have learned throughout these five years.

CPEP Reflection

The CPEP site created for this course was extremely valuble from both an academic and professional perspective. It was helpful to have one site containing my work throughout the year in order to show both professors and perspective employers.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of the CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the origional building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Sharon Jankiewicz. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
